BMB - a high-power, high-frequency, push-on interface

07-01-2026 | SV Microwave | Industrial

When using small envelope RF connectors like SMP and SMPM, engineers often run into the issue of low power handling and fragility. Enter the BMB interface from SV Microwave.

The BMB interface provides a blind–mate, more robust, and higher power handling option than other SMPx interfaces. Due to its larger form factor, this interface can handle more power than SMP and SMPM interfaces without sacrificing reliability or performance. This also means it’s more rugged.

BMB is also a SOSA-aligned interface and conforms to MIL-STD-348 specifications. This makes it ideal for D38999 input and output panel connectors, embedded systems, and other gang-mating solutions. In fact, it can be used throughout the embedded system's entire RF path.

It features a push-on connector interface, allowing you to retain the convenient blind-mate functionality. Additionally, it’s rated to 22GHz, giving you a high-frequency option - which is uncommon among high-power connectors.

Performance Metrics and Alignment Data

The plots below show typical VSWR variation from DC to 22GHz for a BMB Female-Female bullet under radial and axial misalignment conditions.

The plot below shows the cross-talk between two Size 8 BMB mated pairs in adjacent ports of a 38999 circular connector. The cross-talk is below the noise floor of our lab and well below the allowable limit of the BMB specification.

SV’s Broad Range of BMB Interconnects

SV offers a broad range of BMB interconnects, including D38999 (size 8) connectors, board-mount connectors, bullets, and between-series adapters, designed to help test and calibrate SOSA-aligned systems. Learn more on its BMB Interconnect product page.
